This week I started ideas development for my project. To start off I really wanted to get an idea of what sort of style of the documentary I was going to replicate. I started off by watching Louis Theroux's Forbidden America and weird weekends to get an idea of the format of documentaries. I also came across this video about the documentary format. The video outlined 4 different parts to any good documentary: Intro/Premise, Inciting Incident, Climax then Resolution.
Whilst looking into this I also decided that I wanted to go for a 'Netflix Style' documentary as it really plays around with lighting/camera and allows you more freedom to be more creative in post. For example, the lighting style of Netflix documentaries is quite dramatic and uses 'Rembrandt' lighting with a cinematic shallow focus which isn't normally seen in normal documentaries such as BBC documentaries.
